Research facilities in the Institute
Following legal institutes and their libraries are located in the “Haus des internationalen Rechts”:
- Institute for Private International and Comparative Law
- Institute for Public International Law
- Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law
- Institute for European Economy Law
The opening hours of our Gemeinschaftsbibliothek internationales Recht are Monday - Friday 8.00 am - 8.00 pm.
The books and journals of the library as well as the corresponding electronic versions can be searched via the Cologne University Catalogue. You can use the ‘Location’ filter to restrict the hit list to the holdings of the Gemeinschaftsbibliothek internationales Recht.
The library collection of the Institute for Private International and Comparative Law comprises approx. 82,000 volumes and 200 current periodicals (journals, loose-leaf editions, law and decisions journals). The collection focuses on Private international law, US law, Comparative law and European private law.
The majority of the literature is systematically organised in a stacks area which is not open to the public; current textbooks and commentaries can be found in the reading room on the ground floor which is open to all. Please report to the library desk with your book requests so that we can retrieve the books for you from the stacks. An overview of the library's subject areas can help you with thematic literature research.
We will gladly endeavour to provide you with a place in one of our rooms for visiting scholars.
You can apply for a library card for the central University and City Library of Cologne as well as internet access on campus via the Welcome Centre for International Scholars. Please send an e-mail to: international.scholars(at)verw.uni-koeln.de. You can then use numerous legal databases and full texts via the WLAN network eduroam. Information on installing eduroam - also on mobile phones or tablets - can be found on the website of the IT Center University of Cologne.
If you have any difficulties with literature research or other problems, the librarians at the Institute (ipr-bibliothek(at)uni-koeln.de) will be happy to help you. We wish you a pleasant stay and every success with your work.
